This exhibition is being jointly staged by the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which owns the former Lord Mayor Treloar Hospital at Chawton Park Road, and landowners who control land to the east of Selborne Road, Alton. The aerial photograph below shows the areas involved.
A previous public consultation event was held in May 2012 and our plans have been further developed in response to comments received at that event and following a series of technical meetings held with statutory consultees including Hampshire County, East Hampshire District and Alton Town councils. The proposals are in line with the emerging Joint Core Strategy which plans for an additional 700 new homes at Alton overall in the period up to 2028 (an increase from the previously planned 200).
Key elements of the proposals comprise:
- Around 530 new homes to meet Alton’s future housing needs; including affordable homes
- A new 20 acre (8ha) Country Park and other public open space
- The widening of Butts Bridge and reconfiguration of the road network to ease traffic flows
- Developer contributions towards a new sports centre, education provision and other infrastructure
We believe that the proposals will deliver a number of identified objectives for Alton. The current problems, and the suggested solutions to them, are explained on the exhibition boards.
